My dance school actually used this pattern around 15 years ago when it was just starting out. It probably just strikes one as ugly because it's outmoded now, but I honestly miss the old kick pleats. (of course, we did NOT do the one with the big shamrock boxpleat. We did the pattern on the left side, sans lace, though lace was also a big thing before my time. The colors we chose were much nicer too) Dresses these days look like ballet and irish dance had an ugly baby. I'm really not a huge fan of the dropwaist tutu look, but that's probably because of what I grew up with. Also, those ghillies look real to me, just tied weird.
Also, kudos for making this blog. Even back in my day (ha ha...uh...fifteen years ago, I guess) feis solo dresses were out of hand. These days I don't even know what to say.
Tired of the endless array of hideously tacky solo dresses at feisanna everywhere, Lucky created Ugly Solos as a humorous jab at the excesses of Irish dance culture. Now in its second year, Ugly Solos is developing a following.
DISCLAIMER: This website is a HUMOROUS jab at Irish dance culture. It's all in good fun, nothing malicious. If you're offended, my apologies in advance. If I have used your dress, and you would like it off of my blog, please e-mail me and it will be promptly removed.
